Police in New Zealand are experiencing a rash of number plates thefts since the current rise in petrol prices. Previously they only received knowledge of such thefts occasionally but now it has become a daily event. They are being used in drive off crimes at filling stations where motorists disguise their vehicle with the stolen plates and steal the fuel they have put in their car.
