Which Way With Your Rug
Up until the 1960s, people only used rugs in their homes. They used rugs to cover as much of the floor as possible because rugs were warmer than wooden or tiles floors that were bare. However, rugs were considered something for the very wealthy in the early part of the 20th century and only those with large amounts of money could afford area rugs.
With time, rugs started getting larger and larger and eventually they reached a point where they covered the entire room. Covering an entire room with an area rug became a popular fad very soon because of the warm and cozy feeling it imparted to any room. Not only that, it was easier on the feet too. These area rugs, however, were still movable. They would have to be straightened out and pulled straight every so often, otherwise they would bunch up.
